(The Holy Land)

The Holy Land (Latin: Terra Sancta), is a generic term that usually refers to one or more countries in the Middle East region of the world that witnessed the origins and early history of three of the world's great monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

"The Holy Land" is sacred to Jews, Christians, and Moslems, the Holy Land has endured over the ages as a focal point of religious aspirations and ideals. For the Christian, the Holy Land is the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth and the site of his ministry; for the Moslem, Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock marks the spot from which the Prophet Mohammed is said to have ascended to heaven. And for the Jew, it is toward Jerusalem that the pious turn three times each day in prayer.

As such, The Holy Land has been one of the most important destinations to travel, for both tourism and pilgrimage for centuries, and continues to attract visitors on the same basis even today in order to their economic, religious and cultural importance.
The Holy Land also represents the landscape in which the Roman Empire's expansion, the Jewish Diaspora, the medieval Crusades, and (most recently) the modern Arab-Israeli.
Travel to the Holy Land is particularly in demand during the high holidays of Judaism (around September/October in the civil calendar) as well as for Easter/Pesach and Christmas.
